Somerset Regional Animal Shelter is a municipal animal shelter that places approximately 1,000 animals in homes each year. We rely heavily on our volunteers.
Our volunteers help with a variety of tasks that include cleaning, mopping, etc., laundry, grooming, socializing the animals, transporting, adoptions, events, fundraising, dog walking (after 1 month of volunteering/training, please note that 14-16 year olds cannot walk dogs, even with an adult), front desk greeter, collecting supplies, parades and following up on adoptions. There are ways for you to volunteer both at the shelter and outside of the shelter, including fostering animals. By offering your time, energy, and home to an animal in need, you prepare the animal for adoption into a permanent home and prevent overcrowding at the shelter.
Volunteers under the age of 18 may participate in our Junior Volunteer Program.
***No flip flops or open toed shoes please!***
If you’re interested in volunteering please print and fill out a Volunteer Application.
Feel free to attend one of our monthly volunteer meetings (check our calendar for dates). You will need to attend a new volunteer orientation session. The orientations are scheduled the first Saturday of each month, 11:00AM at the shelter, with an additional session on a Sunday morning or Wednesday evening. Click here for more info.
Contact our Volunteer Coordinator if you have any questions.
Volunteers may download a booklet regarding volunteer policies. We look forward to meeting you!
Join Our E-List
The purpose of our E-List is to help out when there is an emergency situation or extra help is needed. Through the E-List we announce when we have a shortage of supplies, when we have a need for more foster homes, and when there is a situation that is beyond the capacity of our regular volunteer crew and shelter staff. We will also send you announcements about our upcoming events. It’s a great way to help out if you don’t have a lot of time to give. If you’d like to join our E-List, fill out the form below.
